I am trying to make a font that starts a line a large size, say 36 point. This would be useful for the first letter of a wor
or as a number accent. The problem I have is the lines are no longer single spaced. The first line has quite a bit o
space below it between it and the next line. What I want to accomplish is to have a large font as the first one or tw
characters in a line and have those characters match up with the first two lines while the text remains single spaced
See the example below

CMN, what you need is a Drop Cap. You don't mention what version of Word
you're using, but I know it goes back at least as far as Word 2000. If you
have the capability, all you have to do is click in the paragraph and Format

> Drop Cap. Make your formatting choices and OK.

To apply the formatting to more than just the first character in the
paragraph ("to have a large font as the first one or two characters in a
line"), select as many characters as you need and then do the drop cap.

Set the line spacing to an exact amount. With the relevant paragraphs
selected, click Paragraph on the Format menu. Under Line Spacing,
select "Exactly" and specify the desired amount in points.
