I received a compare document in which my windows compatriots can see
rectangular boxes on the right that designate formatting changes, deletions,
etc.  They will not display on my computer and the document will not print
out correctly.  Any suggestions?

I have Word X for Mac, with Service Release 1

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to view the documents with the
deleted/formated change boxes in the right hand margin.

Is this feature not compatible with Word X?

I suspect that's the problem.  Word X is essentially Word 2001 ported to X,
and Word 2001 is essentially the same as WinWord 2000, and I don't think
WinWord added track change/comment balloons (which I *think* is what you are
talking about until Word 2002.  I believe the new MacWord 2004 does have
them.

This link will help you find Mac-specific newsgroups:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups>
Where you can confirm my diagnosis--I'm still in Word 2001 so don't have
balloons and am not very familiar with them.

And I think you need to update your Word, see here for more info:
http://www.mcgimpsey.com/macoffice/office/vxversions.html

Sorry I missed the "windows compatriots" comment in your first post,
probably could have sorted this a while back.

Also you mentioned printing--the doc won't print with the balloons in the
margins as later versions do, but if you check under Word | Preferences |
Printing, there should be some checkboxes to control printing comments,
which should spit them out at the end of the doc (I think).

And just FYI:
A note on the differences between Mac and WinWord:

(might need to hit reload a couple times in Safari, sorry).

Best to ask this in a MAC newsgroup. The "word" newsgroups are primarily
populated by WINword users :-)
