Background dark blue always - help

I am a home user and don't know much about this thing, but
I need help.

I have Word 97.  All doc. are dark blue.  Print is white
or black.  How do I fix?

Tools > Options > General

Clear the 'Blue Background' checkbox. (Is this option a legacy from the very
early days?)

Very early days, poorer quality monitors... and trying to
compete with WordPerfect 5.x (DOS)
