I'm creating a 3 fold pamphlet in Word XP.
I have three columns of text.
My problem is that Word (or me)somehow seems to have put
what appears to be a break in at a certain point in one
of the columns. It appears as a line on the screen (and
on the page when printing) in that column. When I move the
cursor over it I get an up & down arrow over the line
with an = sign between the arrows. I can move the line up
by holding down the left mouse button (a broken line
appears across all columns) but not down. I cannot type
anything below the line in this column. This is really
frustrating. Any suggestions? I'm at the desperate stage!

Sounds like a paragraph border.

See the article “There is a line in my document that I can't delete because
I can't select it. How did it get there, and what can I do about it?“ at:

My first reaction was the same as Doug's (and that is probably the correct
diagnosis), but from your statement that you "cannot type anything below the
line in this column," I'm wondering if it might be a column break. If so,
you should see it so identified in Normal view, and you should be able to
select and delete it (actually this should also be possible in Print Layout
view).
