I have looked in Formatting, Numbers, Page Layout,
Paragraphs, etc...  I cannot stop Word 2000 from auto
indenting and auto numbering once I type in a number at
the beginning of a line.  I need it to look like this:

1. (tab) text (enter)
2. (tab) test (enter)

I am a medical transcriptionist and really need to be able
to type as above without Word 2000 placing numbering
automatically.

I would be most grateful for help on this.

Thank you.

Sandy,

Out of the box Word does lots of things it thinks people
will like.  You and I don't.

First got to Tools>AutoCorrect Options>AutoFormat As You
Type and uncheck everything under Apply as you type.  This
will solve the immediate problem.

See:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/TameAutoFormat.htm
and
the Article "It's Your Own Word" at
http://www.syntagma.demon.co.uk/WordArticles.htm

for more on making Word work for you.
