How do I reduce the leading in a Word 2000 paragraph? Space Before and
Space After don't allow negative values. If I reduce the line size, the
font eventually gets clipped. Clearly I do not understand how Word
handles reduced leading.

You can reduce line spacing using either the Exactly or the Multiple setting
(the latter can be set to less than 1 line). Text may appear clipped but
will often print anyway. If not, then you need to reduce the font size.

I tried to use an Advance field, but it did not do anything. Thanks.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish, Mike? Advance fields were
included in Word almost exclusively for compatibility with WordPerfect and
are rarely of much use in native Word.

Supposedly with Advance, the second line of text can be made to overlap
the first. Now THAT'S positioning!

I down't know if I'd ever need it, but I do find it interesting. When I
was a WP user, I used it a lot.

If you want to superimpose two lines of text, it would probably be a better
use of your time to put one of them in a text box in front of the other.
