Change a margin on one line without forcing a new paragraph

I too am switching over from WordPerfect. I was able to
very easily change a margin for any single line without
affecting the rest of the document. Much like the magin
release on a typewriter. I can't seem to figure out how
to do this in Word without forcing a new paragraph.

Any help would be appreciated

Marc,

I can't think of a direct way, especially to achieve this
at a specific point in the text.  As you probably know, a
WP document is essentially a stream of characters & codes,
but in Word it's a collection of attributes & containers,
and that structure doesn't lend itself to what you're
describing.

If you're looking to place numbers in the margin (that was
the only time I ever used WP's margin release code), you
probably want to either (1) reset the whole section's left
margin and use hanging indents for the numbers, or (2) define
a style that uses a frame to position the number in the margin
adjacent to the text.

If this isn't what you need, please describe in more detail
the exact effect you're after and maybe we can figure out a
way.
