Recently both the horizontal and vertical ruler bars have diappeared (print
mode view). Both can be revealed if the mouse is dwelled on the ruler bar
areas, but as soon as the mouse is moved away, they disappear again. I have
tried all sorts of changes in the Tool->Options->View menu, but have not
been able to permanently restore the ruler bars. Thanks in advance for any
help.

Never mind. I found the answer at a Microsoft Word FAQ site. View->ruler is
a toggle for the ruler bars.
