I am using Office XP. When I write documents in Word, sometimes the sizes of the header and footer change mysteriously: there are suddenly several hard returns. Any suggestions to prevent this from happening?

This will inevitably happen if you paste text into a header or footer. No
matter how carefully you cut/copy the text excluding the paragraph mark and
paste it including the paragraph mark, you will still get an extra, empty
paragraph. You just have to be aware of this and delete the empty paragraphs
afterward.
