page breaks appearing in cross-references

Hi,
To improve the layout of my Word 2002 doc, I have added a
number of hard page breaks. Mainly I added breaks just
prior to major headings, to start the headings on a new
page.
However, when I updated the book, I found that all cross-
references to these headings contained page breaks. This
means that the cross-references break across pages, which
is of course very ugly.
How can I format my document with page breaks and not
have them appear in x-refs?
Thanks for any advice!
E.

Instead of using page breaks, format the headings as "Page break before."
