I am going crazy trying how to figure out the following:

First: Cover Sheet with neither header nor footer.

Second: First Text Page with different header than those
that follow AND no page number.

Third: All pages following First Text Page with DIFFERENT
header and also with footer containing page numbers,
beginning with "Page 2 of (all text pages, including
First Text Page. E.G., Page 2 of 7. Page 3 of 7, etc. The
count excludes Cover Sheet.

I am having the same issue...I would appreciate what you
learn to do to resolve the problem.

I would do it like this.

-Insert a section break at the end of page 2.  Insert>Break>Section
Break>Next Page
-Switch to the section 2 header and deselect same as previous/link to
previous using the header and footer view toolbar.
-Repeat for section 2 footer
-Switch back to section 1, then File>Page Setup>Layout>Headers and
Footers>Different First page apply to this section.
-Apply header text on first text page or page two.
-Switch to section 2 header and apply header text
-Switch to section 2 footer and using the header and footer view toolbar
format the page number format to start at page 2.  Type "Page" then insert
the page number, type "of", then insert the following field code { =
{Numpages} - 1 }, then type "Pages"  Update and toggle the field code.

Note field code brace pairs {  } are entered with CTRL+F9.

Your ieda seems similar to the one from "garfield-n-odie
and, as far as I can tell, ignores the cover sheet.  My
file has the following format:

A. Cover sheet: No header, no footer.
B. First Text page: Primary header, no footer.
C. Second text page: Different Header, which is the
wording of the Primary Heaser with the word "continued"
added to it, and footer indicating page 2 of 6.
D. Third and subsequent text pages: Same Header as
on "Second text page, footer indicating Page 3 of 6, etc.
for the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth text pages.

Pat,

If you followed my directions, you will have a two section document.
Section 1 will have your cover page and your first text page.  If you format
that section with Different First Page and then put  header text on your
first text page the "Cover Page" page will "not" have header text.  If you
then put your cursor in the footer of section 2 (physical page 3) and format
page numbering to start at 2 then followed with a { = {NumPages} - 1 } your
page numbering will read 2 of "one less than the total number of pages."

I agree, this "does" ignore your cove page which is what you indicate you
want to do.

I re-read and paid attention to your solution.  My
sincerest thakns, it worked.  I must admit that starting
at the second section, rather than the first is not
intuitive. I think that that was at the crux of my
confusion.

Pat,

Glad it works.  We both could have read gno's solution a
little closer.  His/her method is actually more intuitive
and makes use of standard fields in lieu of the convoluted
{ = { NUMPAGES } - 1 } that I supplied.
