page view keeps jumping while I type

I just started using Word 2003 and when I am typing
additional text in the middle of a long document the
screen view leaps around with virtually every word I type -
I can't even keep track of what words I've typed - every
keystroke, they're on a different part of the screen.
It's driving me crazy.

Might you possibly have a laptop with a touchpad? Some of them can be very
sensitive, or it's very easy for the side of the hand to brush it while
typing, and that moves the cursor.
