Hello All,

I am using Word 97 on a Windows 2000 machine and I am
having the strangest problem.  When I open some of the
documents on my system there seems to be random text
inserted at the bottom of over half my documents (i.e. my
name, font names, network UNC paths etc..).  I don't know
where it came from, and if I go into the document and go
to TOOLS-TEMPLATES AND ADDINS and check to AUTOMATICALLY
UPDATE DOCUMENT STYLES the wierd text is removed once I
exit and get back into the document, even if it isn't
saved.  I have tried deleting the NORMAL.DOT and getting
one from another machine but the problem still exists.  I
know I have found a work around but I don't want this
problem to reoccur and I don't want to have to open up all
300 documents on my system.  Any ideas on this one?

In the File Open dialog, change the "Files of type" setting from "Recover
Text from Any File" to "All Word Documents." See

Thanks Suzanne,

You are a life saver.  Never even knew this option
existed.  I kept thinking I was correcting the problem by
exiting out of the document and then reoppening from the
history menu, but it turns out it is just as you said in
the article.  I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling
all of office and his palm software since I was "certain"
it had something to do with it. LOL, thanks for the help.

Dave
