My MSWord 2003 suddenly insists on printing single-spaced
texts double-space, no matter which format I use (print
preview shows doublespaced even when the document on
screen is single).

When in editing text documents I wish to single-space a
pair of double-spaced lines, even though I define them
it now declines to obey the single space command, (what
it actually seems to do is single-space for a nanosecond
but immediately default to double-space. Can anyone
help??

Check the vertical alignment on the Layout tab of Page Setup to make sure
it's not set to Justified. Also, make sure that there is no Before or After
spacing in Format Paragraph.
