When I view pages in print layout in Word 2002, the margins look even all
around -- just like I want them.  But when the pages print out there is a
noticably larger margin on the right and at the bottom.

I've made sure that the printer's default is A4, and I've selected A4 as the
proper size paper for the document. I've turned off letter/A4 resizing.  I've
reveiwed the size and placement of the footnote box.

What else do you think it might be? Any help is appreciated.

I don't know your country, but A4 paper is not the same as US Lette
size. It is 8 1/4 x 11 3/4. This may explain your problem, if you
document is setup as US Letter and your paper is A4. But that woul
mean your right margin would be smaller on the printed page.

Otherwise, your printer may be substituting a font or there is anothe
margin setting somewhere else in the printer setup area
