Folks,

How can I stop Word from using Styles?  I prefer just to
make the text I want bold, when I want it and to space as
I please.  I end up with hugh documents because of images,
and now when I want to make a bit of text italics for
emphasis, I highlight it, hit the "I" button and the whole
document changes.  I can undo it by hitting a
single "Undo" but the whole process can take a very long
time even on a super-fast machine.

How can I just have word STOP DOING THESE DARNED STYLES
for me.... I'd rather think for myself.

Thanx
jim

I don't think any of these setting suggestions, sensible as they are, are
relevant to Jim's problem - sounds like 'Automatically update' is checked
for Normal style. See

You can't stop styles from existing in Word. You don't want to. Word is
based on styles. http://addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm

Nevertheless, that isn't your problem. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/WholeDocumentReformatted.htm.
