MS Word 2000. Sometimes when I open an existing document
the background is a page of horizontal lines or horizontal
and vertical lines. The lines do not correspond to the
paragraph spacing and they do not print. Any ideas , this
is driving me mad?
Thanks.

It's a formatting grid. Turn it off from the drawing toolbar.

Display the Drawing toolbar, then select Draw | Grid, and clear the check
box for "Display gridlines on screen."
