Can I insert a photo as a backdrop in word?

Trying to learn to use word for flyers. I'm not used to using tables, and I
want to use photos as backdrops. Can I do this, and if so, how?

Place them inside the header/footer area.

Insert the photo as a "watermark." If you have Word 2002 or 2003, use Format
| Background | Printed Watermark and select your photo. For earlier
versions, see “HOW TO: Create a Watermark in Microsoft Word 2000” at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211324
