In Word, click on Tools | Options | Print | uncheck the "Field
codes" box | OK. And you did enter the {} braces with Ctrl+F9
instead of typing them, right?

Your one sentense solution changed me from raging mad to calm and productive
again! Thank you. Where can I find all the hotkey functions such as this?

I'm also having this problem, but your fix doesn't work on my Mac version. Do
you know a Mac fix for this?

Tools | Options | View: clear the check mark for "Field codes." May be
"Preferences" on the Mac.

It was under Word Preferences as a Print option. Thank you very much!

You should have separate Print and View options/preferences wrt to
displaying field codes. At least they are separate in the Windows version.
