I am attempting to create a macro template for document with the first page
having a two column structure, and the second page set as a single column
with a deep indent. I've managed to work the margins but not to preserve the
column structure over both pages. Please help!

You need a section break between the two-column and one-column portions. See
the topic "Multicolumn sections in single-column documents" in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingColumns.htm.
