(Newbie to the Word groups, hope this is the right place)

In Word 2002 SP-1, when I'm in Normal View, equations and drawings show up
as empty boxes.

Under Tools/Options, in the "View" tab, I have made sure to clear the "Draft
Font" checkbox (actually it was never on) but the problem persists.

Nitzan

"Picture placeholders" is the box you want to be sure is clear.

In Tools > Options > View, clear the checkbox for "Picture
placeholders".

Note that in Normal view you still won't see any pictures that are
floating (not in-line) or any text boxes -- but they wouldn't have
shown even as empty boxes when picture placeholders are turned on. If
you have any of those, you'll have to use Print Layout view or Print
Preview to see them.

Thanks Jay and Suzanne, that worked.
(On on to the thing that's giving me the real headache:
TOC. Look for it in a posting near you :-)

I've posted a TOC-formatting-related question to
microsoft.public.word.general. Since then I have found out
something very interesting regarding this -- something I
haven't seen discussed in any of the (TON) of material I
have read in the past 24hrs in all MVP sites etc.

Just to make sure this doesn't get lost: where indeed is
the right place to post the question (assuming
that "general" isn't?) and my findings (which still
require a follow-up)?

Cheers,
Nitzan

Well, even though they are really OT, most TOC questions seem to get asked
in the word.tables NG, so there's usually a fair amount of TOC discussion
there. A more appropriate NG would be word.pagelayout.
