Spacing when inserting date

When I insert the date into a Word template, the program adds a single space
before the date. This only happens on some systems so it leads me to believe
it's a setting in Word. (Windows 2000 and XP systems using MS Office 2003)
Any help would be greatly appreciated

No help with your immediate problem because I never use Insert > Date or the
keyboard shortcut. I have templates that use a createdate field instead. See
