i am trying to place a landscape word table into a portrait word document.
is there a way to flip the file without adding landscape pages? when i
insert it as landscape, the page numbering doesn't center.

Yes, but the inserted table will not be editable. Create the landscape
table in a separate Word document, and save it in case you need to make
changes to it later. Select and copy the landscape table. Switch to
the portrait document, click on Edit | Paste Special | Paste as: Picture
| OK. If the picture is not "float over text" (Word 97 and 2000) or is
"inline with text" (Word 2002 and 2003), format it to be floating or not
inline. Then rotate the picture 90° with the rotation tool on the
Drawing toolbar.

for instructions on how to create centered portrait page numbers on
landscape pages.
