Word '97 - letterhead help

Hi All,

I've spent the last couple of evenings trying to get some letterhead (to be
included as part of a document) to work out properly in Word '97.  I've also
spent hours "Googling" for solutions - of which I've found many *partial*
ones, but I can't seem to put it all together.  Here are my (fairly simple)
requirements:

1.  Page 1 needs a  company graphic at the top of the page and some contact
info at the bottom.
2.  Page 2 and beyond need the same contact info at the bottom, but no
graphic at the top.

Now, the problems I keep running into:

1.  The "width" of the header and footer lines are such that I need about
"0.3" left and right margins (there is a "line" that crosses most of the
page width below the top graphic and above the bottom contact info - to
separate the main page from the top and bottom elements).
2.  The main body of all pages should have wider left and right margins
(maybe like 1 inch).
3.  Page #2 and beyond need a smaller top margin than page #1, as there is
not top graphic on those pages...

I've been able to get the right info on page 1 and page 2+ using the many
tutorials I've found, but I cannot for the life of me get all of the margins
to work out as needed (*all* margins - left, right, top, and bottom).

It always seems like Word and I are pulling in opposite directions.  Is this
really as difficult as it seems?

Thanks for any tips, advice, or words or encouragement...

Jeff,

Assuming you've already figured out you need to check 'Different
First Page' (in Page Setup), leave the margins all pages at 1
inch, but where you need the 0.3" margin, set both left & right
indents at *negative* 0.7".  (You need to do that for all of the
lines (= paragraphs) you want laid out like that.)

Mark,

Thanks for the response.  The "negative indents" seem to have been the
ticket on the left and right margins.  Now, I think my only remaining
problem is with the top margin (term used loosely).  Since page #1 contains
a company graphic at the top (which is not on pages 2+), the "body" part of
the text needs to start lower on page #1 then all subsequent pages.  Like
maybe 1.7" down on page #1 and 1" down on all subsequent pages (for
example).  Can I "build" this into my letterhead template, or will I be
forced to deal with the differing margin when I actually "arrive" at page #2
when the template is put to use?

Thanks for any more assistance.

Jeff

See the link Suzanne posted.  It deals with this thoroughly.
Material in the First Page Header is independent of the other
headers, so you can bully the text into a smaller space by
adding material (logos, borderless textboxes, etc.) to the
header.

Mark and Suzanne,

Thanks for your help.  I had found the link provided by Suzanne earlier in
my Googling efforts but for some reason, did not read it thoroughly.  I'll
read back over it closer, and hopefully it'll solve my last issues.

Thanks again,

Jeff
