MS Office Forum / Word / Page Layout / October 2005can't change the page set up default
Every time I open a new Word document the default is set to 'letter' size. I have reset the default to A4 several times, but each time I start new document, the default has changed back. Word 2003 HELP! Open the normal.dot template, and make the change there and then save and close it.  SignatureHope this helps. It is located in a folder that is probaby hidden. The usual location is c:\documents and settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. You can check for the location in Word by selecting Options from the Tools menu and then selecting the File Locations tab. To see hidden folders in Windows Explorer, select Folder options from the Tools menu in that application. SignatureHope this helps. It is not necessary to open Normal.dot to make this change; just make the change in Page Setup and press Default.... (which I suspect is what you've already done). And if the Windows regional settings were set to a region that uses A4 paper by default - eg the UK - then the problem shouldn't arise in the first place.
