Retaining Prior Section Formatting after Following Section Deletion

Evertime I am working with a two section document and I want to delet
the second section I find that when I delete the section break, th
prior section page formatting changes to the deleted section pag
formatting.  Is there a way to delete the second section and retain th
formatting of the prior section
