I have a master document with about 10 subdocument.  When I wanted to print
it out, I couldn't figure out how to have the page numbeing run consecutively
starting from the first page of chapter 1 thru the final page of the
document. The on-disk help was useless.  This shouldn't be so difficult.  Can
anyone explain how this is done? Thanks.

Word Heretic might come along and help you out, but most of the people
posting here don¹t know much about master documents, because:

Word experts generally advise combining long documents into one file, if
possible, and you will find more information on controlling those big files
