I'm trying to create a christmas letter with a snowflake or other christmas
background. This will be put on a CD with some family pictures. Where can I
find backgrounds to download and how do I insert it into the documant?

Some beautiful snowflake pics can be found at:

http://www.snowcrystals.com/

You could use an image editor to up the brightness and lower the contrast to make it suitable as  a watermark.

To add to your document (Word 2000 here, hope it's same/similar for you):

Format -> Background -> Fill Effects... -> Picture tab

Good Luck,
Keith
