Restricting editing in selected text

Can I select text in a document and restrict another user from editing it?

But only selected text.  The rest of the document can be edited.

I expect the restriction would need to be password-controlled.

If everyone is using Word 2003, yes.

Other than that, no, Word doesn't support that kind of selective protection,
except by full sections.
