I have gotten this far: Divided my Word doc into 7 sections, with continuous
pagination throughout. Here's where I am stuck: I want to hide the page
numbers in Sections 1, 3, 5, and 7, and show the page numbers in Sections 2,
4, and 6.
I can't seem to do it. I tried to "break the connection" between sections;
the "help" instructions tell me to click edit>Links>Source>File>etc. BUT
when the Edit menu drops down, "links" is not available (not highlighted?) I
would sure like to know what to do next. Thanks.--

Your instructions were faulty. On the Header and Footer toolbar, you need to
unlink the headers and footers using the Same as Previous (or Link to
Previous) button. Once they're unlinked, you can insert or remove page
numbers in one section without affecting others. For more, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm and
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NumberingFrontMatter.htm. Depending on
what you're doing with these alternating sections, you may find that just
enabling "Different first page" will accomplish the same thing for you, and
you can get by with half as many sections (and not have to unlink them).
