I have tried to print text on customized paper (6x8) and have set the margins
at .7inches. The print preview displays the layout just fine, but when
printed, the left margin is almost 2 inches wide. Help

If the other margins are correct, then possibly this is Word 2002 or 2003,
you have comments or tracked changes in the document, and you have balloons
enabled and set to print on the left side.

If (as is more likely), text is shifted over by that much, it may be that
the printer is expecting the paper to be fed from the center rather than the
side.
