What version of Word do you have now? 2003?
Go to Tools > Options > View and look in the lower right part of the dialog.
If there's a box labeled "White space between pages", check it.

Yes, I am using 2003 and that has solved the problem in my opening
document. I presume all I need to do now is set that up in the normal.dot
file and all is light again ! Thanks so much, Jay.
