How about trying a different approach. Insert a text box (No Line, No Fill)
in front of the table. In the text box, insert a table that exactly matches
the calendar table. Put your "watermark" numbers in the table cells. Then
send the text box Behind Text. This works for me.

Thank you Suzanne.
It is a step in the right direction because I manage to get the two in the
cell however this little bug still evades me as that the centre is not
correct because of the relationship between the text box and the text in the
cells.
I guess that MS never anticipated background text overlapping the current
text. That is the difference between desktop publishers and word
processors.
It is a step in the right direction and I am happy with that.

In my experiment, the cells in the background table and the cells in the
foreground table were exactly aligned and everything centered properly. When
you inserted your text box did you set the internal margins to 0"?
