Margins or columns problem

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this issue I am having with my Word
2003 program.  For some reason, every time I start a blank document,
there is .5'' space on the right margin.  I have it all set at 1''
margins on all sides yet when the type reaches the right margin, it
stops .5'' short of the right margin.

Now, I have figured out the reason for this (I think).  The problem is
corrected if I format my columns to be be one column.  It gives me the
.5'' then.  Before I click the one column preset setting, it says that
the columns are set for 6''.  Is there any way to change what the
default column width is?  I am sick of having to do this every time.

Thanks for any help you can give!

You need to open Normal.dot (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm), choose One in the
Columns dialog there, OK out, press Spacebar, then Backspace, then save
Normal.dot.
