I'm trying to find out how to insert the Level 1 heading into the header /
footer. I'm hoping to use something similar to the Page Numbering function
which displays the current page number, just i'm looking for the current
level 1 header.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

TIA, Matt

It might be you are looking for the StyleRef field. Look this up in help.
For more ideas, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm.
