I want to remove vertical line to left of footnotes

I can't get rid of a vertical line that sometimes appears to the left of my
footnotes. I have also had the problem with some headings and text in a text
box.

Probably some sort of border that has been inadvertently added to the style,
or it could be a "change bar" if you are tracking changes.

It turned out to be the tracking changes view. I wasn't using tracking
changes at the time, but now I know.
