I am trying to disable the auto date feature in MS Word XP so that when I
create a document with a specific date the date will always remain the same
instead of updating to the current days date when ever I reopen the document.
Thanks for your help.

Change the field type that you have inserted from Date to CreateDate then
update the field, which will correct your existing documents, then  in your
template change the field also so that new documents use CREATEDATE instead
of DATE.
