how to delete "graph" background appearance in microsoft word

have checked  normal dot template, background, watermark...none seem to
delete this graph appearance...it only shows up in view - print layout  and
does not show in print preview..I can type over it, but very annoying ...

all my old documents now have this graph...but..it does not print ever

how can I get rid of it?
I also set up another user account on my computer and there is no problem
w/ documents there...

Display the Drawing toolbar and choose Draw | Grid. Clear the check box for
"Show gridlines on screen."
