You say you now use Word XP. The most common cause of fonts not showing
in Word menus is that there is not printer selected as default that can
print TrueType fonts. However, that does not seem the most likely cause
here.
I suspect that your "favourite" fonts are not loading because the files
for the fonts, in one way or other, do not conform to the specification
for the font type. A common problem is that the font file lacks a
particular data/look-up table. In my admittedly limited experience, most
fonts that fail turn out to have been conversions of one kind or
another. Most often, they have been PostScript Type 1 converted to
TrueType.
In all cases of this type with which I am familiar, simply opening the
font file in FontLab and re-saving it will cure the problem. The reason
is that FontLab will generate the font file and supply the missing table
while so-doing.
If you have purchased a license to use the fonts, it would be worth
contacting the source to see if they have a re-release that fixes the
problem. If you have not and these are fonts you want to use, perhaps
this would be a good opportunity to see about getting a good copy from a
good source.
Do let us know.

Could be too if you were using a font manager and these fonts were never installed in
the font folder, the association may have been lost.

Yes, that would certainly happen if an Adobe Type Manager version
earlier than 4 was used with Windows ME. The usual reason to do that
would be to enable the use of Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts. Upon
upgrade to XP, there should have been a warning about the
incompatibility of ATM version with XP. There would have been no problem
with ATM versions 4.1 or higher.

Thanks for your reply.
The fonts are ttf, none are conversions, most being LD fonts from inspire
graphics.
I DL a trial of fontlab, when saved and reopened the came out as arial (ug)
Fonts were installed into fonts folder, to see if that was the problem to no
avail.
I know this has been a problem with other XP users, jjust wish I could
remember the solution.
They are just plain ole .ttf.
I might contact inspire graphics see what ideas they have.
I can send you a copy of one of the "offending" fonts if you have any more
ideas!
Thanks to you both.

Yes. If you obtained some of the non-working fonts from Inspire
Graphics, it would be useful to get their comments. Do let us know.

If you'll give the name of one or two of the problem fonts, I'll check
and see if they're XP acceptable.
