I use Windows 98 ........ how many fonts? Should I know
that info? There are lots. Arial, Times New Roman, etc.
They sorta seem to be back.... but now online (earthlink)
web mail, the type on the screen looks different.

If you open the Fonts folder, you should be able to see how many files it
contains.

Yes, I expect you to figure out how many there are. How many files with
a ttf extension (e.g. arial.ttf) are there in the Windows fonts
directory? An approximation will do. 100? 300? more than 1000?
