I have a pretty new Dell that has Office 2003 small business edition o
it. When I print from Word and set the page range to anything beside
the whole document, it ignores it and print the whole document anyway

I have found people talking about printing sections IE to put prin
p1s1 in the print range, but that doesn't help. A newly created doc o
just this one machine will print all pages regardless of the prin
range.

It does this on several printers, and it only does it from Word.
tried Excel and Acrobat Reader

I'd look and see if there is a difference in printer drivers between the
different PCs. (And check to see if there is a printing mode difference) In
the past, this problem most often occurred as a result of a printer driver
not fully supporting such options in word.
