My sister is working at a school for disabled children. She was asked to
write a form letter using mail merge to include the names and addresses of
the recipients at the head of the letter. She was presented with a word
document which is just pages of labels, (30 to a page - about 200 names)
with the names and addresses. The person who created this file typed the
names directly into the labels, in other words there is no Excel list or
Outlook address book available. Is there a way of using this file to create
a list so we don't have to type in all the names and addresses again?  I
tried copying and pasting to Excel without much success.
Thanks for any help on this subject.

Copy and paste into Excel should work ... persevere with this, because it is
usually the best method.

Or, experiment along these lines (assuming each table cell current contains
a name plus two or more lines of address) --

1) Convert all paragraph marks in the document to tabs, so each cell
contains [Name]tab[Address1]tab[Address2]...
2) Convert the table to text with paragraph marks as separators
3) Select and paste into Excel ... then names and address lines should now
be organised into separate columns.
