Hi,
I have a series of Bullet Lists, that sometimes start near the bottom of a
page and are too large for all the bullet points to fit on one page.
However, rather than fit, say, 4 bullet points on the first page then the
remaining 2 on the next page, Word is "snapping" all 6 to the second page,
thus leaving a large gap at the bottom of the first page, which doesn't look
good.
I am using the "Show / Hide" Icon, which reveals a black square in the left
hand margin - what does this mean and is it relevant to why Word is doing
this to my bullet points?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Check your bulleted paragraphs for "Keep with next", "Keep lines
together", "Page break before" and "Widow/Orphan control" settings on
the Line and Page Breaks tab of Format>Paragraph. However, note that
these options are useful when applied properly. For more, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/TextReflow.htm.
The black square is related to the formatting options mentioned above.

Stefan has given you the long version. The short version is that the list
items are probably formatted as "Keep with next." This is a good idea for
the first item of the first and last pair (so that you don't have a single
bullet point alone on a page), but not for all.
