Barcode missing

I've regularly used the "print bar code" option when printing envelopes from
Word 2003. Today, instead of printing a barcode and FIM-A bars it's printing the
field names like this:
{BARCODE ENV-ZIPCODE 1\B \U}

I can't recall doing anything particularly different or changing anything
significant (but I obviously did!)

Any idea what may have happened (and how to get it working again)?

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Print | uncheck the "Field
codes" box | OK.

You're seeing the field codes instead of the field results. Press
Alt+F9 to switch back to results. (This is the shortcut for
checking/unchecking the Field Codes option in Tools > Options > View.)

When I saw your responses I remembered that in responding to someone else's
question about printing non-printing characters I was experimenting with some of
the print options. <Insert silly-looking embarassed face here>.

Not just seeing them but printing them, in which case g-n-o's reply is the
correct one (Print tab rather than View).
