Trouble with postscript fonts

Under XP, I tried to install my favorite Adobe .PFM font, TektoMM, via the
Windows font install utility, but it said it was an invalid font. So I
installed Adobe Type Manager v4.1 first then was able to install the font.
Unfortunately, the font style name doesn't show up under Word, and instead
has a blank space where the name should be. If I choose the blank, the font
changes correctly.

I tried reinstalling the font using a couple of different options under
TypeManager, including "not copying the fonts", and copying the fonts to a
different directory, and also copying the fonts to the \Windows\Fonts\
directory, but no difference. How can I fix this "no display" problem?

I'm sorry I can't answer the question specifically, but since Adobe has
dropped the Multiple Master program, you might consider getting the regular
Type 1 versions.

If the font concerned contained "Alternate" characters, it has special
mapping as between codes and glyphs. This means that the font name will
not be seen in Word's font menu if "List font names in their font" is
selected in   View   Toolbar   Customize   Other.

To solve that particular problem, go to the location as above and
deselect that option. You should now see the font name. How to select the
characters to use is another matter.

That being said, I doubt if that is your particular problem. The name of
the regular font in the menu is listed as TektonMM. The non-MM version is
simply listed as Tekton. Further, alternate characters and such are not
available for Tekton.

Consider posting the question on Adobe's newsgroups.

Things to try:
Delete all PostScript Type 1 fonts. Make sure you have backups of the
font files so you can install needed/wanted ones later. Go to Add Remove
programs in /control
panel and remove ATM. Create a directory off the root called, say,
AdobeTypeManager. Install ATM and the fonts to that directory or
subdirectories. Do not install any PostScript fonts using Windows add
font facility. Use ATM to install any new fonts. Create a group to
install them to and activate that group.

Let us know.
