Can I change the font in several Styles in one go?

We have about 100 documents created a while ago that all use 10 or so custom
styles.
Since then the corporate font has changed to arial (from a custom font).
All the documents have been updated to aerial - but they are all merge docs,
and when a merge is run the mergefields all appear in the now defunct font!
It is a laborious process going into each doc and having to change each
custom style to aerial - I just wondered if there is anyway to change all
the custom styles on one go?
TIA
Graham

In theory, if the styles are all based on a common style (such as Normal),
changing the common style should suffice, but there are glitches in this
process. See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/HowStylesCascade.html
