Hi,
I want to print 10 pages (next to each other) from of a large, 200+
pages documents with more than 70 images and tables and a some EndNote
bilbliograpy links.

The printer is a Canon MPC 600F which is connected by a USB cable. When
starting to print even a single page the printer *immediately *puts the
printer file in waiting status. The small icon that shows the printed
pages leaving the printer does not show pages printing. All printing
with other applications work.

In some instances word no longer answers and I have to restart the prog
and repair the text.

I use word 2003, Win XP home SP2
Pentium 4 with 1 MB Ram

Any ideas how to print the file ? Why is the print spool immediately in
waiting status ?

In the Properties of your Printer's Settings....in the Advanced section
there should be a section dealing with Spooling ....

One option is that printing waits for ALL pages to spool first.  Could
this be happening to you ?  it is a HUGE file after all.
Try changing it to Start Printing Immediately.

Do you mean Background Printing ? It was set to OFF.
I also changed from Reverse Print Order On to OFF.
And suddenly the printer printed.

So, thanks for the idea where to look. This is the first time that I can
print this piece.

Merci

The settings you've found are Words's printer settings. Howard was referring
to the printer's own settings (Start > Printers : right-click). There are
settings in there that control how data is physically passed between the
computer and the printer. Experiment with them.

Didn't see the point. thanks. but now the spool starts immediately. so
this was not the reason. however there is also the option Print directly
on the printer (?) which is not used. what does that mean ?

Worth a try in your case: it bypasses the spooler entirely, and simply sends
the output to the printer port. Not usually a good option (you lose all the
bells of whistles of the printer queue management), but sometimes side-steps
printer problems.

Some other techniques you can try --

1. Print to PDF, then print the required pages from the PDF.

2. Print to file, then send the file directly to the printer port.

I shall note all of these tricks, as they can be helpful. And now that I
downloaded free CutePDF that converts word files to pdf on the fly ...

Thanks
