Regarding the Word 2003 Task Pane...

How do I turn it off so that it will not show up every time I open Word?

I know I can shut it down on the view menu, but I want to have it closed as
a default.

Hi Henry,

If you uncheck the Startup Task Pane under Tools>Options>View, it should not
appear when you start Word.

However, to learn how to gain more control over it, see the article “How to
make sure the Task Pane can appear when Word 2002 starts up, even when
