I have Word2000 sp-3 on WindowsME.
I installed OfficeXP, and after using it a bit, decided to
uninstall it. I couldn't figure out how to make Office 2000
the default program for my files, so I just uninstalled XP.
Now, when I open Word, I get the splash screen, and it just
hangs there. If I hit Control-alt-delete, I get a white
error message saying that my system is dangerously low in
resources, do I want to quit the application "Word"?. But I
can't do anything except power off my machine.
I've uninstalled Office XP, Office 2000, Office 2000
developer, VB6, MS Works (which is where Word was originally
installed by the OEM) run the Windows Installer clean-up
utility, WinWash, reregistered Word, renamed the
winwordav.dll, and I am getting exactly the same behavior.
Anyone have any ideas?

Absolutely!!!

This link may not open, but if you go to
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/
You should be able to find this error.
Thank you all to this NEWSGROUP! I have been working on
this problem for 48hours!!!!
My system was WinME (don't laugh), but had the same
problem after I installed Word 2K (from Office 2K) over
WordSR-1 (from Works) -
You can even see in the splash screen when the system is
locked that it has the wrong version of Word somehow...
For those that can't get the link above, basically all I
had to do is find the NORMAL.DOT file, and rename it to
Normal.dot.corrupted.
Then Word started working again (of course I need to
create a new normal.dot).
