I'm using Office Professional 2003.  I would like to keep
Word open on the desktop without any documents in the
application window so I can switch to it and quickly open
documents I need as I'm working.  However, if I leave
Word open that way, after a few minutes it spontaneously
closes.  I've tried leaving it open with a blank document
but the same thing happens.  It is only if I have it open
with an actual document that it stays open.  Is there any
way I can change Word's behavior so it will stay open?

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555169 "Word Quits Unexpectedly
When Selecting a Document from the Windows Taskbar".
